Ka Kiu (Kyle) Lau ’25 was one of 150 Scholars chosen from a record 5,800 applicants. He’ll step away from professional soccer this fall to pursue a master’s degree in global affairs from Beijing’s Tsinghua University.

Between her time at Claremont Graduate University (CGU) and Pomona, Stadler has worked in various registrar’s office capacities for more than a decade. What a registrar does “depends on the day, the hour, sometimes the minute,” she says.

Organized annually by the Draper Center, this year’s AlternaBreak sent groups of students to Las Vegas, Oakland, San Diego, San Francisco and various Inland Empire cities to serve and explore.

Four members of the Class of 2026 received the Rena Gurley Archibald High Scholarship Prize this year for ranking highest in scholarship. 

Former Pomona College students joined colleagues and friends of Professor Samuel Yamashita at a day-long conference held on campus April 11 to reflect on Asian history, literature and policy as well as the impact of Yamashita’s mentorship.

Ananya Vinay ’27 won the Scripps National Spelling Bee at 12—a fun fact she says she often used for icebreakers her first year at Pomona. For all she did in the months following her win, she’s accomplished even more since.

Two employees received the 2026 Distinguished Staff Award on May 22: Academic Coordinator and Gallery Manager of Art Tricia Avant and Admissions Receptionist Juanita Davalos.

Presented annually since 1955, the Wig Award is the highest honor bestowed on Pomona faculty. Recipients are elected by juniors and seniors and confirmed by a committee of trustees, faculty and students.

Nine student-led projects were supported by the President's Sustainability Fund and the ASPC spring semester. Projects tackled issues ranging from dining hall food waste to automatic lighting in residence halls and water bottle refill stations.

Pomona College’s Commencement ceremony May 17 capped off a weekend of celebrations and sent the Class of 2026 off with a charge to “go forth from this stellar garden of Pomona College, believing in your power to make this world shine bright.”
